The fun stuff (in which some might say the real education takes place)

  • Greatest adventure, Sailing our 32 foot sailboat, Moonpenny, to the Solomon Islands from Australia in 1995 (a 12-day sail in 40 knot winds)

  • Favourite fiction, Shantaram,  by Gregory David Roberts, and anything by John Irving and Bruce Courtenay

  • Favourite non-fiction, A Course in Miracles; Power vs. Force, by David Hawkins;
    Eat, Pray, Love
    , by Elizabeth GIlbert

  • Favourite music, Anything by the Indigo Girls or Joan Armatrading

  • Favourite sports hero, The Australian swimmer Susie O'Neil, whom I witnessed breaking the 200 meter butterfly world record in May 2000.  This was a record that had stood for 19 years from 1981 when American Mary T Meagher broke it.  The 19-year-old record was the oldest record in international swimming. My event was also the 200 meter butterfly, which I swam for 15 years competitively (considerably slower than Susie and Mary T ! )

  • Family, Daughter Kate (10 years) and son Geoffrey (6 years)

  • Interests, Buddhist study under Sogyal Rinpoche, the author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying , study of the new thought paradigms in emotional and soul intelligence, running, bushwalking, scuba diving, and meditation
